NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH Consejo, Corozal

Meeting minutes – October 1, 2007

NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH Consejo, Corozal
Meeting minutes – October 1, 2007

The Meeting was held at the Consejo Shores Community Center and began at
10:30 a.m. Approximately 10 residents attended. The Corozal Police did
not make it to this meeting.

Our new resident, David Chen, introduced himself. He plans to live here
year round. Graydon Wildman also introduced himself as he has returned
to assist his father and brother in running Consejo Shores Limited.
Graydon’s main task is sales. He will return to Canada several times
until he has completed his transition to live here permanently. Kayo
Wildman has also returned to work in the family business on the website
and computers.

Treasury Report – There is $201 in the general Fundraising account. One
new home builder, Walt Fisher, gave $400.00 toward road damage which
brings that fund total to $465.75.

Roads Report - Some new homebuilders have refused to contribute to the
road damage fund. Lorenzo, chairman of the committee suggested that we
get an estimate for a couple of loads of marl and the labor to fill in
some of the potholes before they get big. We can perhaps fill them in
after the rains. In the original roads motion everyone agreed to a
yearly assessment of $50.00 for general upkeep.

Hurricane Damage – Wildmans’ reported that it will take at least another
2 months to be caught up with all the hauling and cleaning of trees.
They estimate the project will cost more than $100,000 before it is
complete. We discussed a request for donations to assist with costs of
cleanup to our parks and common areas. We will wait until the snowbirds
arrive and discuss it further. Some personally owned lots are not yet
cleared of the downed trees and mess from the storm. NW will compile a
list with contact information for all lot owners. CSL will send an email
requesting that their information be made available to neighborhood watch.

Karen and Vance Titus sustained considerable damage to their roof in the
hurricane. Luckily they carry hurricane insurance and they are waiting
to hear how much they will be reimbursed by the insurance company.

Security Report – Ranger Ed Plunkett reported no trouble. It has been
noted that Customs Officers are patrolling regularly and are building a
house for themselves in the village. They are establishing a bigger
presence in the area and working nationally to prevent contraband and
illegal passing of the border. The port in the village has been closed
for almost a year now. The officers say that we can resume our boat
trips to Chetumal once Customs and Immigration are set up properly at
the pier.

There was a report that Corozal Police apprehended some suspected
Central American gang members that are branching out from Belize City.

Around the Neighborhood - Karen Titus was treated at Eden Clinic by Dr.
Ghen for a scorpion bite on her finger. They do this in the spirit of
community service and accept no payment for their help. Ella also found
and killed some scorpions in the library. They came in with a box of
donated books. Yikes!

It was suggested that we register with Social Security and make social
security payments for our household workers and gardeners, even if they
only work 1 day a week. This provides them benefit if they get sick or
injured. It was also brought up that it is not legal to hire anyone who
cannot officially work in Belize. They must be nationals or residents
and have a work permit and social security card.

Bill was flying overhead just before the hurricane taking aerial
photographs. One of the photographs was passed around at the meeting.

Residents Roger Lundberg and Tom King are visiting for about 10days.
They graciously invite everyone to drop by their veranda for cocktails
and happy hour at about 5pm.

Our next meeting will be next month on the first Monday in November, the
5^th . See you there.
